A while back, I posted a teaser about spending a weekend desecrating graves. I suppose it's time for me to explain the details.
In truth it's nowhere near interesting as it sounds.
Over Christmas, the dog died. We talked about having his body cremated and scattering the ashes in the back garden. I suggested that we scatter the ashes around Dad's grave, which would bring the two to them back together, as Zane was pretty much Dad's dog.
On the Sunday, the whole family went to the graveyard to complete things. The memorial stone on Dad's grave had sunk due to the compaction of the soil, so we lifted the stone, scattered in Zane's ashes and added extra sand to bring it back up to the proper level.
They're not really ashes, as I think of them, but more like very small stones.
While replacing the memorial stone, I trod on it to settle it in place, and I found myself apologising to Dad.
